CASE STUDY

"Our managers need the skills to manage rapid growth."

Client: Aveva Group plc
Consultants: Pippa Basan, Jane Kershaw, Matthew Last

Aveva is one of the UK's most successful technology companies.  It is the leading global provider of engineering software to the plant, power and marine industries with offices in 30 countries. High growth, a global spread, a rapidly expanding workforce and increasing complexity mean that managers and Directors need excellent management skills.

In 2007 Hilary Wright, Head of Group HR, asked Magela to design and run a management development programme tailored to the needs of a highly diverse group of managers drawn from ten different European countries plus Russia, Malaysia, Japan, Korea, the Middle East and the USA.

The programme, like all Magela management development programmes, uses a variety of approaches including training, assessment tools, coaching, development journals and practical application. The emphasis is on ensuring that participants take responsibility for their own development after the programme.

Because of its success and popularity, the programme has run again in 2008 and will now be a regular event at Aveva.

Participant comments include:
'I am a complete convert to a coaching style of management and it has made a big difference to me and my team'.
'The techniques for managing my time, workload and priorities have given me much needed control of my day'.
'Networking with managers from around the Group was invaluable as were the discussions about working across cultures'.
